Dr. Proscovia Nabunya is an Assistant Professor at the Brown School at Washington University in St. Louis. She co-directs the International Center for Child Health and Development (ICHAD) at the Brown School. Dr. Nabunya’s research focuses on global mental health, HIV stigma, and family and community-based support systems as protective factors for the wellbeing of children and families in low resource settings. She has over 18 years research experience conducting research among children, youth and families impacted by HIV and poverty in sub-Saharan Africa. Her work has been funded by the National Institutes of Health, including the National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH) and the National Institute of Child Health and Human Development (NICHD). Dr. Nabunya was recently awarded a pilot grant from the McDonnell International Scholars Academy and the Global Health Center at Washington University in St. Louis, to examine the feasibility and acceptability of a combination intervention to address HIV risks, treatment adherence and mental health outcomes among refugee youth living with HIV in Uganda.
