Erick da Luz Scherf (he/him/his) is a PhD student and Graduate Council Fellow in the School of Social Work at the University of Alabama. Before coming to the United States, he completed a Master of Social Work degree at the University of Stavanger in Norway through the Erasmus Mundus mobility program, and a Bachelor of International Relations and Politics in his home country of Brazil. His academic pursuits have centered around critical inquiry in Social Work and Health Sciences. Erick also has a strong track record of research experience and publications in the fields of social work, public health, and human rights. He is currently a volunteer Research Assistant in the Sleep Health Equity (SHE) Lab at the University of Alabama and has been previously affiliated with the ERC-funded Human Rights Nudge project at the University of Copenhagen in Denmark, and other research groups in Brazil dedicated to human rights issues. More recently, his focus has been on investigating health disparities among minoritized and racialized migrants in the U.S., and he joined The Initiative on Social Work and Forced Migration to work on these themes under the supervision of Dr. Mitra Naseh.
