Breaking Barriers: Dr. Mitra Naseh Secures Missouri Foundation for Health Grant to Improve Refugee Health Outcomes in Missouri

Mitra Naseh, Director of the Initiative on Social Work and Forced Migration and Assistant Professor at the Brown School, has been awarded a three-year, $463,654 grant from the Missouri Foundation for Health through its highly competitive Opportunity Fund. Her project, titled “Structural Barriers and Health Outcomes of New Missourians,” aims to identify and address structural barriers that hinder refugees’ access to essential initial assistance. The project will focus on developing community-led solutions to overcome identified barriers and testing the feasibility of these interventions to improve health outcomes for newly resettled refugees in Missouri.

Community partners for this grant include the U.S. Committee for Refugees and Immigrants (USCRI), Monarch Immigrant Services, and Immigrant Service Providers Network. Dr. Proscovia Nabunya, Co-Director of The International Center for Child Health and Development (ICHAD) and Assistant Professor at the Brown School, will serve as Co-PI on the project.
