Dr. Mitra Naseh Publishes In-Depth Analysis on Afghan Forced Migration to Iran with the Migration Policy Institute

Farzaneh ,25, just married and is passing through Dogharoun repatriation centre to start her married life in Afghanistan. Farzaneh was born and raised in Iran and it is the first time she sees Afghanistan. She is happy to see her family after all these years but feels sad to depart her parents. Dogharoun repatriation centre helps Afghan refugees returning home voluntarily. The returnees receive assistance packages including cash for transportation and items such as blankets, water and sanitary package. Food and healthcare would be provided if needed and once on Afghanistan border they would also receive repatriation grant ($ 150). 1973 Afghans have left through Dogharoun centre in 2015. The figures was 4456 in 2014 and 8185 in 2013.

The article examines five distinct periods of forced migration from Afghanistan to Iran in the modern era, highlighting the increasing policy restrictions imposed on Afghans in Iran over the past four decades.
