 Ariela Schachter is an Associate Professor of Sociology at Washington University in St. Louis. Her research advances theoretical and empirical scholarship at the intersections of the sociology of immigration, race/ethnicity, and urban sociology. Her work has been published in leading journals, including American Sociological ReviewAmerican Journal of Sociology, and Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, and is currently supported by grants from the NSF and Russell Sage Foundation. Her current projects focus on three main areas of inquiry: how structural racism and barriers to citizenship shape immigrant exclusion and wellbeing, processes of ethnoracial classification and identification, and the effects of racialized information in the housing market.
